The North Atlantic Alliance has recognized Ukraine as a member of the Enhanced Opportunity Program. Kiev expected this decision in the fall. Ukraine became a member of the NATO Enhanced Opportunity Program. On Friday, June 12, press service of the Alliance informed. This status involves deepening cooperation between allies and partners which have made a significant contribution to NATO. “As a NATO partner, Ukraine has provided troops for Allied operations, including in Afghanistan and Kosovo and fdddor the NATO Response Force and exercises. The allies greatly appreciate this significant contribution, which demonstrates Ukraine’s commitment to Euro-Atlantic security,” the report said. It is noted that as a partner in enhanced opportunities, Ukraine will benefit from specially designed opportunities to support such a contribution. This includes increased access to communication programs and exercises and a wider information exchange. “This decision recognizes Ukraine’s significant contribution to NATO’s missions and demonstrates the Alliance’s continued commitment to its partnerships despite the COVID-19 pandemic,” NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said. Ukraine is now one of six partners in expanded opportunities along with Australia, Finland, Georgia, Jordan and Sweden. Each partner has an individual relationship with NATO based on areas of mutual interest. The status of Ukraine as a partner in advanced opportunities does not imply any decisions regarding NATO membership. NATO Allies continue to encourage and support Ukraine in its reform efforts, including in the areas of security and defense, in relation to civilian control and democratic oversight, and in the fight against corruption.
