The state of emergency in healthcare can be extended for a month in Moldova. This was announced by Prime Minister Ion Chicu on June 22, following a weekly joint meeting with the president and speaker. He noted that the coronavirus bed capacity is filled by 50-55%. However, according to him, there is shortage of medical staff. “It is clear that the number of infections has begun to grow after the economic activity was resumed. It is important that the medical system addresses these challenges. Last week we prepared new places in hospitals. Now, taking into account new places, 50-55% of beds are occupied in hospitals. The situation with the medical staff is more complicated, medical workers are exhausted. We had a shortage of personnel even before the epidemic, and now this problem has worsened,” Chicu said. The Prime Minister called on citizens to comply with medical recommendations to reduce the risk of infection. “The state is making every effort. But if you don’t observe discipline, we will not be able to cope with this pandemic, just as other countries,” said Chicu. According to Chicu, the National Commission for Healthcare Emergency will hold a meeting on June 23 to consider the healthcare emergency extension after June 30. “The Ministry of Health, the National Agency of Public Health, doctors will offer to extend emergency in healthcare. We will discuss this proposal, but with a high degree of probability we will extend this regime for another month,” Chicu said.
