President Igor Dodon believes that early parliamentary elections can be held in February - March 2021. He stated this on Tuesday night on the NTV-Moldova television channel. Commenting on the decision of the Constitutional Court that early parliamentary elections cannot be held simultaneously with the presidential election, Dodon said that this decision “did not come as a surprise,” infotag.md reports. “This decision could come as a surprise for those who hoped to provoke early elections and hold them simultaneously with the presidential election, given the President’s resignation. No one was going to resign, but that doesn’t change anything. We took note of the CC decision which must be respected,” Dodon said. At the same time, he emphasized that he will stick to his opinion. “Early parliamentary elections are inevitable, and they should be held as soon as possible, as soon as possible by law. I see that polls show that public opinion is changing, people are inclined to believe that this parliament has outlived itself,” the president said. According to him, taking into account the CC decision, in the current situation, early parliamentary elections can be held in February-March 2021. “Immediately after the election, the president-elect must sign a decree on the dissolution of the parliament and setting an election date,” the head of state said. He recalled that there are only two ways for this: the dissolution of parliament is possible if the parliament is not able to pass laws for three months, or the parliament cannot approve the government within 45 days after at least two nominations for the post of prime minister. “We see that now the work of the parliament is blocked; since June 18, it has not made a single decision. Let’s see what will happen next. The resignation of the government is possible in order to start the procedure of early elections. Not at the request of the opposition, but deliberately to dissolve this parliament. This is possible in order to ensure a legitimate way to dissolve parliament and hold early elections,” Dodon emphasized.
