The Permanent Bureau of Parliament will hold a meeting on July 20 to decide when MPs will discuss a vote of no confidence in the government. This was announced on July 20 by Prime Minister Ion Chicu, noting that if the Cabinet is dismissed, Moldova may be left without macrofinancial assistance from the European Union and a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). “I was informed that a meeting of the Permanent Bureau will take place today at 10:00, which will discuss a proposal to hold a session of parliament today to consider a vote of no confidence in the government. If the Permanent Bureau agrees, the Cabinet will have to change plans in order to participate in this exercise in democracy,” Chicu said. At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that even dismissed the government will continue to fulfill its duties, though not in full. Thus, according to Chicu, a vote of no confidence would seriously limit the powers of the government. “For example, we won’t be able to sign an agreement with the EU on Wednesday to receive part of macro-financial assistance in the amount of € 100 million, we won’t be able to sign a new memorandum with the IMF,” Chicu added. Recall, 11 MPs from the Dignity and Truth Platform (DA) party on July 14 signed the text of a vote of no confidence in the government of Ion Chicu. They were supported by MPs from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), as well as MP Octavian Ticu. Also, the Pro Moldova group MPs promised to support the vote of no confidence.
