Clima on PAS Protests: Their Goals are Purely Political

Yesterday morning, members of the PAS party organized a flash mob in front of the presidential administration building, urging the head of state not to sign the decrees appointing judges designated by the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) last week. Judge Vladislav Clima responded to the protest. He calls this action purely political, with exclusively political goals, nokta.md reports. He mentioned that he participated on an equal footing with other judges who applied for the post of chairman of the Chisinau Court of Appeal. “I am surprised by the events which followed after the SCM completed the competition. Nobody spoke out against this or protested at the preliminary stage of selection. As a judge, I am very concerned about the integrity and fairness of the judiciary, which should be based solely on the law. Attacks on the political system in recent years have led to a decline in trust and distortion of public perception. As for the voting and the assessment that I received in the competition for the position of the President of the Court of Appeal, I would like to note that I participated in the same conditions with everyone and passed all stages of the preliminary selection. In addition, by secret ballot and with nine votes in favor and three against, I won this competition. The competition was open and transparent. I believe that the result speaks for itself,” said Vladislav Clima.
