The WHO chief said that there is no guarantee that the vaccines undergoing testing are effective. He urged not to rely on universal weapons. An effective vaccine against coronavirus may not appear at all, said the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “A number of vaccines are currently in phase three clinical trials, and we all hope to have a number of effective vaccines that can help prevent people from infection. However, there’s no silver bullet at the moment - and there might never be,” he said at a press conference in Geneva. The head of WHO called on countries and governments to rigorously adhere to the counter-pandemic measures- wearing masks, social distancing, hand hygiene and testing. “The message to people and governments is very clear: do it all,” urged Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. According to him, wearing masks should become a symbol of solidarity around the world. Meanwhile, Russia expects that it will be the country where the world’s first certified vaccine will appear. It is expected that the drug developed by the N. Gamalei National Research Center may receive state registration on August 10-12. In an interview with CNN, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, which financed the development of the vaccine, compared the event to the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite. “The Americans were surprised when they heard satellite signals in space. The same will happen with the vaccine. Russia will receive it first,” he said.
