About 40 representatives of the republic's leadership were included in the list of restrictive measures of the European Union. The leaders of the EU countries have agreed on sanctions against Republic of Belarus officials. TASS agency reported on Friday, October 2, citing a source in one of the delegations. It is noted that the reason for such a decision was " elections falsification and human rights violation in the country." The "black" list included about 40 Belarusian officials accused by Western countries of violence against demonstrators. However, Alexander Lukashenko is not among them yet. "We decided to implement the sanctions that we agreed on in August. This means that tomorrow (Friday, October 2 - ed.) A black list of about 40 names will be implemented by a written procedure," the head of the Council of Europe Charles Michel stated at the press conference. Recall, earlier the UK and Canada imposed sanctions in connection with fraud in the presidential elections and peaceful protests suppression in Belarus. At the same time, sanctions that the European Union promised against the ruling elite of the republic were blocked by Cyprus for more than a month, despite Brussels’ persuasions. Later, the EU promised Cyprus measures against Turkey if it unblocks.
