The head of the EU delegation, Peter Michalko, expressed his indignation at "rude attacks on independent media and civil society." This is Michalko’s Facebook reaction to the Socialists Party MP Bogdan Tardea’s book, “Civil Society of Moldova: Sponsors. NGO-cracy. Culture Wars ".
“I am alarmed by the rude, unfounded and malicious attacks on civil society and independent media in the Republic of Moldova. For any state that considers itself democratic and modern, a strong and dynamic civil society, as well as independent media are essential elements that ensure progress, development and transparency and empower citizens,” Michalko said.
The head of the EU delegation also said that non-governmental organizations in Moldova “bring a lot of benefits to all citizens of the country every day”.
“They are important partners of authorities at all levels, they should be open and inclusive for the active part of society, in the interests of people and their future,” Michalko said.
Michalko stressed that such attacks "raise serious doubts about the political commitment to support an enabling environment conducive to the development of civil society, which is an important part of the implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement."
