At the same time, the president noted that there is no need for this at the moment.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated there is no need to form a military alliance between Russia and China now but it might be created in the future.
Putin’s statement testifies to deepening ties between Moscow and Beijing amid growing tensions with the United States.
During a videoconference with international foreign policy experts, Putin was asked if a military alliance between Moscow and Beijing was possible. He said: “In general, we do not need this. But theoretically we can quite imagine this. ”
The Russian leader recalled military exercises being conducted by the armed forces of the two countries and noted that Russia has shared with China secret military technologies that have helped significantly increase its military potential.
He noted that cooperation “enhances the defense capability of the Chinese People’s Army as well” and that there exists a potential to further strengthen military ties in the future. According to the president, Russia will not rule out the possibility of an alliance.
