The Dignity and Truth Platform Party uses the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova as a political instrument. This stated the incumbent president Igor Dodon, who says that the former PDM leader Vladimir Plahotniuc used the same tools, ipn.md noted. “They are trying to use the tools that Vladimir Plahotniuc as well used. Use the Constitutional Court as a political tool. I very much hope that the Constitutional Court will not participate in everything that concerns the political struggle in parliament. This is the highest legislative forum that expresses people’s will.” Igor Dodon claimed that the Constitutional Court can speak on bills that contradict the provisions of the Constitution but not on voting procedures in the legislature. “When there are laws that contradict the Constitution, this is one thing, but when they start to say that the parliament has or does not have the right in accordance with the procedures, this is another thing. The procedures are set by the parliament,” Igor Dodon added. The Constitutional Court suspended the recently passed law that returned the former Republican Stadium to state ownership following parliamentary repeal of the law that would transfer it to the United States Embassy. In addition, the Constitutional Court decided to suspend the operation of Law no. 218 of December 3, 2020 on excluding from the competence of the President of the Republic of Moldova the possibility to coordinate the activities of the Information and Security Service and to appoint the leadership of the service, thus establishing that the activities of the service are subject to parliamentary control.
