Today, Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis signed a joint statement confirming the special nature of bilateral relations. During a joint press conference, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu noted that Romania and Moldova are returning today to a new stage of fraternal and open interaction. “Today Moldova is entering a new stage both inside the country and abroad. This is the stage of getting out of isolation, the stage of renewing the Strategic Partnership with the EU,” Sandu said, moldpres.md informed. Maia Sandu thanked Klaus Iohannis for the support that Romania has provided to our country throughout the years since the declaration of independence, and indicated that thanks to the financial support of Bucharest, schools and kindergartens were repaired, school buses were purchased and cultural programs were supported. The head of state also thanked Bucharest for the help provided since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for the working visit of Romanian doctors. Klaus Iohannis said that Romania is and will remain a sincere friend and main partner of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. “My presence, Romania's selfless investment and the significant assistance offered by Romania last year confirm this. We are with the President of the Republic of Moldova, and we are ready to assist in the reform program and management of multiple crises,” said Klaus Iohannis. He also announced a new support package from Romania for Moldovan citizens. It provides for the early conclusion of the Sixth Additional Protocol to the bilateral grant agreement for 100 million euros. Romania will also supply 200,000 doses of vaccine to Moldova and will soon send a team of experts to Chisinau to help develop a vaccination strategy. At the end of the press conference, the leaders of the two countries signed a joint statement, and Maia Sandu presented her colleague with a commemorative coin dedicated to doctors. The document says that Romania and Moldova emphasize the particular importance of deepening cooperation, focusing on issues of strategic interest, and express their determination to act together in a coordinated manner to achieve common goals.
