The Socialist Party (PSRM) intends to nominate ex-finance minister Mariana Durlesteanu for the post of prime minister in the near future. This decision was made on March 11 by the party's executive committee. As noted in the PSRM, they intend appealing the Constitutional Court (CC), the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission, “to break the deadlock provoked by the President of the country” Maia Sandu. The PSRM Executive Committee decided that the Socialist MPs in the coming days begin active consultations with factions in parliament to find an effective political solution that will ensure proper management of the pandemic crisis. “To date, significant progress has been made in dialogue with parties, and we are confident that it will be possible to find the necessary political compromise in support of the creation of a functional government that will lead the country out of the crisis,” the PSRM executive committee's decision published by party leader Igor Dodon says. At the same time, the party “reaffirmed its firm commitment to the position that the current parliament should be dissolved and early elections should be held. However, according to the socialists, this must be done after the stabilization of the epidemiological situation in the country. Therefore, PSRM intends to re-nominate ex-Minister of Finance Mariana Durlesteanu for the post of Prime Minister. However, as stated in the party, they are ready to consider proposals from other parliamentary factions. PSRM also intends to apply to the Constitutional Court and international authorities to find a way out of the crisis. “In order to avoid the escalation of the political situation and the institutional deadlock, the PSRM will take legal action to break the deadlock provoked by the president of the country, return political processes to the constitutional field and induce the head of state's office to comply with the decisions of the Constitutional Court. Among these actions will be the initiation of the procedures provided for by the Constitution of the country, appeals to the Constitutional Court, the Council of Europe, the Venice Commission,” the PSRM executive committee said. Recall that on March 1, the PSRM called on the president and all parliamentary factions to engage in constructive dialogue to form a government and subsequently organize early parliamentary elections in 2021. PSRM chairman Igor Dodon said then that if Sandu does not sign a decree on nominating a candidate for prime minister proposed by the majority created for this in parliament by March 9, "the republican council will meet and give the PSRM executive committee a mandate to move on to other actions."
