The Socialist Party (PSRM) proposed again the parliament to cancel the “Billion Law”. Such a bill was approved by the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance at a meeting on March 31. Socialist deputy Petru Burduja announced this at a briefing. “Despite the decision of the Constitutional Court on the “billion law”, the Socialist Party has confirmed it will again register this project in parliament. We will go all the way to remove the billion burden from citizens’ shoulders,” Burduja said. The deputy also said that the parliamentary commission on economics approved the bill proposed by the socialists. Now the project should be considered at a meeting of parliament. Recall, in October 2016, the government of Pavel Filip has taken responsibility for the law “On issuing government bonds in fulfillment by the Ministry of Finance of payment obligations arising from government guarantees of November 17, 2014, April 1, 2015 and October 3, 2016”. The law provided for a 13.6 billion lei loan transfer to the state debt, which the National Bank at the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015 issued against government guarantees to three banks - Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank, of which a billion dollars were stolen (then it was equal to about 13.6 billion lei). In December 2020, the parliament approved in two readings the legislative initiative of the deputy from the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Petru Burduja to repeal the "billion law." However, on March 18, the Constitutional Court ruled illegal the decision of the parliament.
