The chairman of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon believes that early parliamentary elections cannot be held at least until autumn due to the difficult epidemiological situation in the country. As Dodon said on April 9 in his President Answers video blog, the best solution is to appoint a new government and hold parliamentary elections in two years. According to Dodon, PSRM is ready for early elections. As the party leader noted, the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC) on the constitutionality of the dissolution of parliament will show whether the CC is an institution seized by President Maia Sandu. “We are not afraid of early elections. But we are strongly against holding elections during a pandemic. We vaccinate, buy vaccines, stabilize the situation, and then we can hold elections. But we are against wasting 120 million lei in the next one or two months to hold elections,” Dodon said. However, in his opinion, it is best to hold elections in two years - after the country has coped with the pandemic. “If elections are held in June, as Maia Sandu wants, I think that no more than 35% of citizens will come out, because they will be afraid. And it will be impossible to form election commissions. Therefore, elections should be held when the pandemic declines and when we have vaccinations and access to vaccines - at best, in September-October. Or better yet is to appoint a government and hold elections in two years, so that we can cope with the crisis first,” Dodon said. Recall, on March 29, Sandu appealed to the Constitutional Court regarding the dissolution of parliament, considering the grounds for this to be two unsuccessful attempts to appoint a new government, “If the Constitutional Court agrees that there are conditions for dissolution, then I will dissolve the parliament, and we will appear before the citizens' court [we will hold early elections]". Dodon said then the PSRM would use all constitutional, legal and political means to prevent early parliamentary elections until at least 300-400 thousand people are vaccinated.
