According to the Republicans, "the longer the Biden administration pulls, the more it will increase Putin's malicious influence across Europe." A group of 21 Republican congressmen appealed to the head of the State Department Anthony Blinken with a request to overturn the decision to refuse to impose sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG. This was announced on Tuesday, June 1, in an official letter from members of the US Congress to the head of the State Department, Ukrinform reported. The statement says that the completion of the pipeline will allow Russia to "further destabilize behavior in Europe." “By deciding to impose sanctions and then immediately abandoning this idea, the US administration has demonstrated contradiction to its repeated disagreement with the completion of the gas pipeline,” the authors of the appeal say. Members of the House of Representatives emphasize that the waiver of sanctions shows that the White House values Germany's interests above the rest of Europe. According to them, the implementation of the project "does not correspond to the tasks of the administration in the field of climate." Earlier, Angela Merkel announced negotiations and discussions with the United States on Nord Stream -2 after she welcomed Washington's refusal of sanctions against the project operator, Nord Stream 2 AG.
