The issue of oligarchs will be submitted to an all-Ukrainian referendum if the Verkhovna Rada does not accept it. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promises to rid Ukraine of oligarchs during his tenure. He said this on Monday, June 7, during the Ukraine 30 forum. The President intends to submit the bill on oligarchs to a referendum if it is not adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. "For my tenure, we will get rid of all the oligarchs, I gave such a word and I am going to this. If I feel that I have a confrontation not only with big business, ... if I see the influence of these people on the Ukrainian parliament regarding non-voting, knocking down, changing this bill, delaying, then I will need support. And if I do not have the support of parliament, I have the most important support - this is society. And it is then that I will bring the issue of oligarchs to a referendum, "he said. At the same time, he noted that, nevertheless, he hopes that the parliament will pass the law. “But I sincerely believe that this is not a question of a referendum ... A referendum is a holiday that people go to, it’s like elections: we are going to change something, and I know that it depends on my vote. Therefore, the referendum should be fundamental questions. I would not like the issue of the law on oligarchs ... to be fundamental for people. I believe that we can more or less pass the parliament, and all, all the deputies, especially the deputies for whom they voted - not just individual parties, but the majority ... they all must support this law, "Zelensky said. Recall that Zelensky introduced a bill on oligarchs to the Rada on June 2. The bill assumes that the oligarchs will be prohibited from financing political parties and participating in the privatization of large state property, and officials will need to be sure to report on the facts of their contacts with them.
