Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita held a press conference on the gas supply of the Republic of Moldova.
The Head of the Government stated that the Republic of Moldova faced a “dramatic” crisis of providing the country with energy resources amidst rising prices on the international market, reports replicamedia.md
The Chisinau government is negotiating with the governments of other countries, such as Poland, Romania and Ukraine, to purchase gas from alternative sources through Energocom.
Gavrilita announced that the Republic of Moldova is starting to buy natural gas, and this week the government will increase the authorized fund of Energocom so that they can buy gas.
The prime minister also said that the purchase price will rise, as will the tariff, but the government is preparing a compensation mechanism for the population, which will be aimed at socially vulnerable segments of the population.
“I want to tell the citizens that there will be natural gas in Moldova. The question we have to solve is: at what price?! Negotiations are not easy. Our intention is to complete these mutually agreed negotiations. There are details that cannot be released yet. We are also negotiating with Romania, Ukraine, Poland and other countries regarding gas supplies”, Gavrilita said.
“It is clear that the import price and final tariffs will increase. The government is preparing a compensation mechanism for certain socially vulnerable segments of the population”, the Prime Minister said.
“The situation we are in shows how right the decision was to accelerate the construction of the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline. Last week we received certain volumes of gas to balance the pressure, and we are grateful to Romania for the support provided in this process. We are also grateful to Ukraine for the constant dialogue on resolving issues of natural gas supplies”, she said.
