A helicopter crash in the town of Brovary, Kyiv region, killed 14 people, including one child, as well as six members of the task force of the MIA of Ukraine and three crew members of the State Emergencies Service (SES) who were on board. Among the victims were Minister of Interior of Ukraine Denys Monastyrsky, his First Deputy Yevhen Yenin, State Secretary Yurii Lubkovych. Earlier 18 people were reported dead. In addition, 25 people were injured, including 11 children. The helicopter crashed on Wednesday morning, January 18, between a kindergarten and an apartment building. As a result of the crash, the building of the kindergarten was damaged and the fire broke out on 500 square meters. The fire has already been extinguished. To eliminate the consequences 127 people and 30 units of equipment were involved. According to representative of the command of the AFU Air Force Yuriy Ignat, the helicopter “was performing the tasks of the State Service for Emergency Situations.” In his turn, the Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, said that the Interior Ministry leadership was flying in a helicopter on a business trip to one of the “hot spots”. Meanwhile, the representative of the command of the AFU Air Force Yuri Ignat stressed that it was too early to talk about the causes of the crash in Brovary. “The commission, which will include different aviation specialists, will investigate the causes. It will not be one or two days, because the investigation of the plane crash takes some time,” said Ignat. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. “Twenty-five people were injured, among them 10 children. As of this minute, three children have died. The pain is unspeakable. The helicopter fell on the grounds of one of the kindergartens. My condolences to all the families and friends of the victims! Denys, Yevhen, Yurii, the MIA team... true patriots of Ukraine. Bright be their memory! Bright be the memory of all those whose lives were taken away this black morning!” – wrote Zelenskyy in his Telegram channel. He added that he instructed the SSU, the National Police and other authorized bodies to find out the circumstances of the tragedy.
