Moldova Railway will reduce the number of working days from 5 to 4, starting in September, due to a significant decrease in freight and passenger traffic. This was stated by the acting director of the railway Sergey Tomșa, bani.md reports. “With reduced traffic and insufficient resources to pay salaries and cover operating expenses, we have no other solution but to reduce working days,” Tomșa said. He stressed that this measure is necessary to prevent the accumulation of additional debts to employees, the budget and economic agents providing railway services. Tomșa also clarified that the reduction of working days is valid only in September and that this will help reduce wage arrears. Currently, Moldova Railway is facing salary arrears of about 150 million lei, and the financial situation of the company is rather deplorable. “Depending on the money collected, we make payments. Now we are in the process of paying salaries for April, and eight branches have already received salaries,” Tomșa added.
