The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk and created by US President Donald Trump, has released a new list of savings achieved by cancelling federal funds. Among the mentioned projects there are again programmes intended for the Republic of Moldova, ziua.md writes. DOGE blocked $32 million allocated to Internews for initiatives aimed at, among other things, “media as an element of democracy, inclusiveness and accountability in Moldova” and supporting “the sustainability of media institutions,” the agency said on social network X. The measure comes two weeks after DOGE cancelled $22 million from a programme to support an “inclusive and participatory political process” in Moldova. Elon Musk said the decisions are part of a broader effort to cut government spending and eliminate funds earmarked for what he called “questionable political activity” in foreign affairs. President Trump and Musk have emphasized that they will continue to cut federal government spending, with further funding cuts expected in the coming weeks.
