“The eastern flank is suffering from regular airspace violations by Russian drones, so the EU must redeploy existing capabilities to counter these risks,” said Romanian Defense Minister Radu Miruta. Romania is calling on the EU to redeploy its defense capabilities to counter airspace violations by Russian drones over countries on the EU’s eastern flank, reports eurointegration.com.ua. “Whilst these Russian attacks are not felt in the center of the continent in the same way as they are on the periphery, we are facing a situation where, several times a month, drones enter European airspace belonging to NATO and Romania,” Miruta said. He emphasized that Russian drones are violating not only Romanian airspace – “this is happening across the entire eastern flank”. “It is quite clear that within the European Union we must redeploy our capabilities to reduce this type of violation... The country’s capabilities must be redeployed to combat these Russian drones,” the Romanian minister urged. Radu Miruta said that since the start of 2026, 14 drones have violated Romania’s airspace. “While there are no such risks in the center of the continent, they do exist on the periphery, and there are certain capabilities in the center of the continent that could be transferred to the periphery to protect the continent,” he reiterated.
