The Special Tribunal will have a mandate to investigate and bring to justice those responsible for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. A resolution on the establishment of an expanded partial agreement on the steering committee of the Special Tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine was adopted on Friday at the 135th Ministerial Session of the Council of Europe, currently taking place in Chisinau and chaired by the Republic of Moldova, reports infotag.md. The document was officially handed over to Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha by Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, who chairs the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CMCE), and Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset. The agreement provides for the establishment of a steering committee for the Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, which will provide the necessary funding, as well as administrative and managerial support for its operation. “The Republic of Moldova is one of the 34 founding states of this initiative and reaffirms its firm commitment to justice, respect for international law and the protection of international peace and security,” said Popsoi. According to him, by participating in the Enhanced Partial Agreement, the Republic of Moldova is contributing to the strengthening of international efforts to ensure accountability for serious violations of international law and reaffirms its firm commitment to the UN Charter, based on rules and the protection of international peace and security.
