German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas during his speech at the conference of leaders of German diplomatic missions abroad criticized the U.S. position on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and negatively assessed the country’s sanctions policy, Boerse-express reports. “It is unacceptable to use sanctions to influence the European energy policy”, said Maas. According to the minister, if the U.S. wanted to sell large LNG volumes to Europe, it would be a contribution to the consolidation of the market. “Purchasing decision should be based upon the price, but not upon imposing sanctions”, said Maas, noting that Washington’s restrictions indirectly affect German companies.
