Ankara needs a serious monetary policy and adherence to democratic principles but not external assistance to overcome the economic crisis, EU-Commissioner Johannes Hahn said. The European Commission expecting the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visit to Germany spoke against economic assistance to Ankara. The EU does not see the need for economic support for Turkey, said European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Khan in an interview for Die Welt, published on Wednesday, September 26. According to Khan, the current economic problems in Turkey have internal political reasons. “EU or individual countries assistance or credit arrangement for Ankara will not resolve the situation” he stressed. The European Union wants  Turkey to be stable and prosperous, the European Commissioner further noted. “Serious monetary policy, an independent issuing bank and consistent adherence to democratic principles will help to raise the economy again”, said Johannes Khan and added that regaining the trust in Turkish politics and economy, Western companies will reinforce their investments in this country.
