RTA expert Sergey Cheban is convinced that the need to negotiate is becoming a big problem for the PSRM, the Democratic Party and the ACUM bloc.

Middle performance crisis

Commenting on the President Dodon's invitation to "reach an agreement", sent to pro-Europeans from ACUM, Democrats and, in fact, Socialists, the expert drew attention to the obvious "theatricality" in the Moldovan politics of recent weeks. According to him, for a month each political force "diligently plays its role", hoping that its rivals will lose their nerves. "Igor Dodon strenuously creates the appearance that everything is going according to the Socialists' plan. In the current not the most comfortable conditions, obviously, the President is doing what's advised by numerous experts- calls ACUM to unite and overthrow the oligarchs together. Plahotniuc controls the current "provisional" government existing in the regime of "acting" and firmly strengthened the standing of his party in Parliament. However, he's not yet ready for an assault to climb the Olympus of the ruling majority: he's spinning a web and testing scenarios. Democrats portray confidence, calmly and generously inviting Sandu with Nastase in the coalition, offering either the post of Prime Minister, or "half kingdom and a horse". ACUM ritually rejects all proposals and accuses Plahotniuc with Dodon of a criminal conspiracy. During the whole month", - stated Cheban. The expert points out that the main actors of the Moldovan policy are quite satisfied with the results of the elections and do not really want to take radical steps to avoid fatal consequences. "ACUM, PSRM and Democrats yielded very moderate results for their ambitions, but instead quite reliable. The current and still short-lived power crisis is a direct followup of this situation. Igor Dodon, Vlad Plahotniuc and Sandu with Nastase are staring each other down and seem to be waiting for some sign from the outside," said Cheban. "The need to negotiate is the main challenge for all political forces. Do not underestimate the ambition of the Moldovan leaders. It is important to understand that each of them would be happy to rule the country alone, and Plahotniuc has long had such experience. The coalition with each other is only what needs doing, and no one can hide mutual disdain sitting at one table," said the analyst.

The foundation of hopelessness

Sergey Cheban notes that there is still an option of "no agreement" among Socialists, Democrats and pro-Europeans, but in reality no one would like another re-election. "Let's call a spade a spade: Sandu, Nastase and Igor Dodon are not revolutionaries, no matter how much time in the past they "spent on duty" in the squares of Chisinau. And the geopolitical partners of ACUM and PSRM expect from their counterparts not eternal protest, but concrete achievements in power and predictable policy. This is not about the Democratic Party - it is a powerful collaboration, united by gray schemes, questionable financial flows and power ambitions. Democrats love silence most of all," the expert believes, stressing that "early elections are a very noisy undertaking, extremely costly in terms of nerves and financial costs." In these conditions, according to the expert, "the coalition is a necessary evil" for all. In addition, Chisinau's international partners, represented by the United States, insistently and transparently hint that they want a stable government formed by mutual agreement without additional complications such as re-elections. The only problem is that such power will never be stable, the expert is sure. "It is difficult to imagine how effective a government of political forces can be with persistent mutual antipathy and unsatisfied ambitions. In fact, such a government will be temporary, passing and will exist until a political force does finds itself strong enough to drop the dead weight in the person of a tactical companion and gain full sole control over the power. We remember that the Democrats have long been addicted to the political permissiveness doping. The upcoming coalition will resemble a terrarium with diverse political species with the main thing to do - to live longer at the expense of another victim. In this situation, the future government of Moldova will face endless internal disputes on everyday issues of public management, and the issues of the strategic vector of development and the eternal choice between the West and the East will drive Chisinau into another dead end. Unless, of course, the coalition offers some fundamentally new centrist idea "for all the good and against all the bad." But how to do it in conditions of total distrust?" asks Sergey Cheban.
