Moldova and Gazprom, when extending the gas supply contract, will provide for the possibility of receiving it not only on the border with Ukraine, said President Igor Dodon. “I had a working meeting with JSC Moldovagaz Administrative Board chairman Vadim Ceban. I was informed about the agreement in principle at the level of Gazprom and Moldovagaz on the extension of the contract for the supply of natural gas from January 2020, and in the near future the parties will announce the signing of the document,” Dodon said on his Facebook page. Ceban reported to the president about the prerequisites for reducing the purchase price of Russian natural gas since 2020, he also noted that this year there would be no increase in gas tariffs. “Although there is hope for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, the signing of a contract with Gazprom will provide for the possibility of obtaining natural gas at any point of delivery, including at the border with other countries, while the gas system operators of these countries will provide transportation of natural gas to the border with the Republic of Moldova in accordance with existing rules,” said Dodon. According to him, the Moldovagaz Company did not abandon the idea of transporting natural gas in the reverse mode along the Trans-Balkan corridor. Now Moldova is acquiring natural gas from Gazprom under an agreement that was signed back in 2008. The contract expires on December 31 of this year. Co-chairman of the Moldovan-Russian Intergovernmental Commission Vasilii Sova in an interview with RIA Novosti noted that in matters of Russian gas supplies, Moldova depends on Kyiv and its willingness to agree with Russia on fuel transit.
