Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on gas deal began two hours later and lasted about 80 minutes. Gas negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the EU, which took place on Monday, October 28, in Brussels, lasted about 80 minutes, reported TASS with reference to the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation. The meeting was supposed to begin at 13:30 Brussels time, but was delayed until 15:25 local time and ended at 16:45. “We also discussed issues of gas supplies to Ukraine. We see the readiness of our partners for direct gas supplies since 2020. This issue is to be discussed later, ”said Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak. He specified that Russia was ready to ensure gas transit through Ukraine in 2020 in accordance with European law, if the Ukrainian side was ready for this. “As a fallback, we are ready to ensure the extension of the valid gas transit deal for 2020. Although if our Ukrainian colleagues are ready to work according to European legislation, we are also ready according to this legislation to ensure gas transit through Ukraine from 2020,” he said. Following the meeting, the Russian Federation representatives said they were ready to work under European law for gas transit through Ukraine. Gazprom and the Ukrainian transmission system operator should discuss a technical deal on gas transit. New round of gas talks will be held in late November. In general, Novak believes that the meeting was constructive. The week before last, Gazprom announced that extending the contract for gas transit with Ukraine would be the only way if Kyiv did not form an independent transmission system operator. In response, Naftogaz promised to send Gazprom claims worth more than $ 11bn on November 1, which could become compensation for the termination of gas transit. Korrespondent
