The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (DA) prepared a request to the Prosecutor General’s Office, demanding that a criminal case be brought against President Igor Dodon on corruption and illegal enrichment. They decided to initiate such a request after the report on Dodon’s resting places for the past 10 years appeared in the press, DA leader Andrei Nastase announced on January 16, on Facebook. Nastase urged everyone who wants to sign this statement to come to the DA office in the center of Chisinau. After the publication of the investigation of Dodon’s travels, the prosecutor general should begin the investigation, the party’s vice-chairman, Alexandru Slusar, said on Politica’s broadcast on TV8. “Article 330/2 of the Criminal Code. I do not see any difference between Igor Dodon and Sternioală (ex-judge of the Supreme Court of Justice Oleg Sternioală) and Druță (former head of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Druță), who are now accused of illegal enrichment. It would be normal if after the publication of this report (on Igor Dodon’s resting), the prosecutor general or one of the prosecutors had to take measures and start a criminal case,” Alexandru Slusar said. He noted that if in the coming days no reaction from the prosecutor's office follows, it is likely that DA will do it. Recall that Ziarul de Garda (the Guardian Newspaper)  published an investigation about where President Igor Dodon had been vacationing with his family for the past 10 years, on January 16. The publication claims that Dodon stayed in expensive hotels in the Maldives, Seychelles, Dubai, Greece, Croatia and Austria. The cost of a room in these hotels per day reaches 10 thousand lei, although since 2005 he has held various government posts and does not own any business. The presidential administration responded to the ZdG investigation, saying Dodon did not violate the law. “The president’s family has been on vacation for the past 20 years. The president’s family paid for part of these trips herself from their income, and some of the trips did not involve expenses, as it was an invitation from friends or relatives who took care of all organizational matters,” the statement said. The administration also noted that "the expenses and income of Mr. President are monitored by the responsible authorities that did not reveal violations."
