The U.S. Presidential Defense Team and the prosecution have presented final arguments for Donald Trump’s impeachment case to the Senate. The final vote will be held on February 5. On Monday, February 3, the Democratic Party of the United States once again called for to remove the US President Donald Trump from office due to abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Each of the parties had two hours to read out final arguments to the senators during the trial. One of the Democrats party argument consisted of the idea that if Trump is not removed from his post, he will again try to influence the next presidential election, including through foreign intervention. According to the head of special committee on intelligence of House of Representatives and the so-called impeachment manager Adam Schiff, the guilt of the 45th president of the United States has been proven. "He betrayed our national security, our elections, and he will do it again. You will not change him and you will not be able to restrain him. If you find the courage to resist him, tell the truth about his lies, you will belong among the Davidov who defeated Goliath," - said Schiff. Democratic Congressman Jason Crowe emphasized that impeachment was intended for “rare cases of serious misconduct” and is not justified by the constitution. According to him, even the elected President cannot be above the law in the United States. Democrats also mentioned Trump’s pressure on the Ukrainian head of state to encourage him launch an investigation into his political rival and hinder Congress’s attempts to get information about it. Defense Arguments Trump's defense, in turn, called on senators not to vote for Trump’s impeachment. White House lawyer Pat Cipollone called impeachment an attempt to cancel his victory in the 2016 elections and prevent re-election next year. According to him, the process is politically motivated. "Trump's lawyer Jay Sekulow said the campaign to remove the head of the White House from power began almost immediately after the oath. Earlier, the US President was formally charged under two Articles. The first is "about the abuse of power" because of his request to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to start an investigation against one Trump’s main rivals in the upcoming presidential election and namely Joe Biden. As levers of pressure were allegedly used both the possible Zelensky invitation to visit the United States and the military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of about $ 400 million. The second Article is about “obstructing the Congress investigation” because of attempts to prevent the testimony and block access to some documents requested by the Democrats. Impeachment requires two-thirds of the vote in the 100-seat Senate, but not one of the 53 Republicans has yet expressed support for such a decision. The final vote will be held on February 5.
