The Minister of Finance, Sergiu Pușcuța, stated that currently the Republic of Moldova has the right to receive the second tranche of macro-financial assistance provided by the European Union. “Some of the obligations undertaken by the Republic of Moldova to receive the first tranche are still being implemented. The bill has been prepared and is to be submitted to the government. As for the second tranche of macro-financial assistance, today we can confidently say that the Moldovan side met all the conditions to receive it. Today, the Republic of Moldova already has the right to receive the second tranche of macro-financial assistance,” said Pușcuța on the Punctul pe azi program on TVR Moldova, unimedia.info reports. The minister also said that this week an EU mission is expected “and they are to discuss what has been achieved and what else needs to be done to receive macro-financial assistance.” Commenting on Peter Mikhalko the statement that the EU macro-financial assistance would not have been possible without an agreement with the IMF, Pușcuța said that Moldova currently has a program with the IMF ending March 20. Negotiations on the new IMF program may take 4 to 6 months. Thus, the minister believes, such a condition may be required only for the third tranche of macro-financial assistance. Recall that in October 2019, the European Commission approved the payment of 30 million euros of macro-financial assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova. This was the first of three payments planned under the program of macro-financial assistance to Moldova allocated in September 2017.
