US President Donald Trump will not come to Moscow on May 9 to participate in events on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. The White House announced the decision of the head of state on Tuesday, March 10. Solemn events in Moscow will take place “in the midst of a political season” in the United States, Trump explained his refusal, adding that he appreciates the Kremlin’s invitation. The Russian side does not yet know who will represent the United States at Victory Day events, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said several hours earlier. Then he spoke about Trump's refusal to come to Moscow. At the same time, the Kommersant publication, citing an interlocutor in US government agencies, reported that the American side would be represented at the highest level. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously recommended that the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition come to Moscow on May 9. "I think that for our former allies in the anti-Hitler coalition this would be both politically and morally correct to come to us," he said in an interview with TASS. In the US, 2020 is associated with the presidential election. Till June, preliminary intra-party voting takes place in the country, after which candidates from Republicans and Democrats will be officially nominated at party congresses. The presidential election is scheduled for November 3.
