By September, 9500 out of 34.5 thousand American soldiers and officers should leave the Federal Republic of Germany, the newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a source in the White House. US President Donald Trump decided to significantly and that is by more than a quarter reduce the number of American troops deployed in Germany. The corresponding order was signed by US Presidential Adviser on National Security Robert O'Brien, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, June 5. According to the publication, by September 9,500 American soldiers and officers should leave the Federal Republic of Germany. At the same time, the maximum number of US troops who may be simultaneously located in Germany should be limited to 25 thousand. There are currently 34,500 US troops stationed in Germany. Trump has repeatedly criticized Germany for inadequate, in his opinion, defense spending, recalls The Wall Street Journal. In August 2019, the then US ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell threatened with a partial American troop from Germany withdrawal if the government in Berlin does not increase the funds allocated for defense. The White House and the Pentagon have so far refused to officially confirm or deny this information. In turn, the representative of the German government also did not comment on the reduction of the American contingent report.
