“Expelling the Russian ambassador will not stop the drones violating Moldova’s airspace. Investment in defense remains the most effective response to this threat,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi. According to him, the Moldovan authorities must act in good faith and proportionately, avoiding emotional decisions that could lead to an escalation of the security situation, reports moldova1.md. “If we look at the international context, the same thing is happening in Poland, and the same thing, unfortunately, is happening in Romania when it comes to drones. And the response is the same everywhere: we must approach this conscientiously and seriously, taking into account the level of tension in our region, and carefully weigh up any response,” the Moldovan foreign minister said on Realitatea TV. The minister explained that only investment in air and anti-drone defense systems can provide citizens with real security, whereas other measures have largely a psychological effect. “The best response is to invest in the defense sector. Because only investment in defense, including air and anti-drone protection, can give us security, peace of mind and a guarantee that such threats will not harm the physical safety of our citizens and their property. Other measures may help psychologically, if you like, but in practice they do not work,” Popsoi emphasized. He also pointed out that even NATO member states, such as Poland, Romania and the Baltic states, have faced similar incidents and opted for a measured diplomatic response, seeking to avoid escalation. “Emotional decisions are easy to make, but their consequences can be extremely painful,” the minister concluded.
