This year Parliament can approve inclusion of European integration in the Constitution as an objective of the Republic of Moldova. This was stated by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu at a meeting with the delegation of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Parliament of Romania. The speaker clarified that the initiative to include in the Constitution a phrase about the desire for European integration was put on the agenda of the Parliament for discussion in the coming months. “All the efforts of the authorities in recent years are aimed at the European integration of Moldova, which is a priority for our country,” Candu said. He mentioned legislative amendments recently approved by the Parliament with a view to harmonizing the national legislation with the European one and, accordingly, implementation of the Association Agreement and the free trade agreement. In the context of Romania’s Chairmanship in the Council of the European Union in 2019, the speaker stressed importance of strengthening development of bilateral relations, especially within the framework of joint infrastructure projects. “Romania’s Chairmanship in the Council of the European Union is an opportunity for Moldova to become more noticeable on the EU’s agenda,” Candu said. For his part, Co-Chair of the Commission Bogdan-Ionel Rodianu confirmed that Romania will continue to support the Republic of Moldova on the European path and promote parliamentary diplomatic relations through various legislative instruments. Let us recall that there was a meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the Parliament of Romania in Chisinau on June 11. Host of the VII forum is the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. Source: NOI.md
