The head of state will run for president in March 2019. He also said that Ukraine would apply for membership in the European Union in 2024.
During the forum “From Kruty to Brussels. We Are Going Our Own Way” the head of state Petro Poroshenko said he would run for president in the elections planned for March 2019.
“The feeling of deep responsibility towards the country, to contemporaries, to past and future generations of Ukrainians led me to decide to run again for the presidency of Ukraine”, said the head of state.
He also said that Ukraine would apply for membership in the European Union in 2024. Poroshenko stressed that the EU and Ukraine approached each other more than ever.
“And there is no doubt that we will receive and begin to implement the plan for NATO membership. We and the European Union have approached each other more than ever. And not a single state that is not in NATO has such close relations with the alliance as our country. But only full membership in the EU and NATO fully and irreversibly guarantees our state independence and national security”, said the president.
