Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday signed a constitutional amendment committing to join NATO and the European Union. According to him these are some skeptics who say that Ukraine will never be admitted to the EU, will never be a member of NATO. My friends, I emphasize – it will be admitted”, said Poroshenko, noting  that “nobody has ever paid such great sacrifices for this choice”. Speaking in parliament, Petro Poroshenko said he sees securing Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO as his “strategic mission”. Poroshenko told parliament that he aims to make a formal bid to join the EU by 2023, calling it as his “strategic mission”. The bill on introducing into the Constitution of Ukraine the provision “On the Strategic Course of the State towards Ukraine’s Full Membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization” was adopted by the Ukrainian parliament on February 7. The same day, Rada approved the draft resolution, which called on NATO to provide Ukraine with a membership action plan. Source: svoboda.org
