German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a telephone conversation with his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon stated the importance of restoring relations between Chisinau and Moscow, especially in the context of the Transnistrian settlement, reports the Moldavian leader on Facebook. In particular Steinmeier  noted that it would be impossible to achieve a political settlement of the Transnistrian issue without restoring good relations with Russia. In addition, in his opinion, good-neighborly relations, open and transparent, will benefit the Moldovan people. The heads of state exchanged views on the current political situation in Moldova, on the new concept of the republic’s foreign policy and on the prospects for a political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. Dodon also thanked Germany for its support and noted the need to expand bilateral relations in priority areas of mutual interest.
