EU Delegation: We Reject the Accusations of Interference in the Processes in Moldova

The Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau strongly rejects any accusations of political interference in internal processes or procedures in the Republic of Moldova. The reaction followed after the head of the Prosecutor General's Office Alexandr Stoianoglo revealed on Monday the correspondence between the former head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Viorel Morari and the former EU ambassador to our country Peter Michalko, tv8.md reports. “We have taken note of the press briefing by the Prosecutor General Stoianoglo and his comments on the disclosure of correspondence between the former head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Viorel Morari and the former EU Ambassador to Moldova Peter Michalko. The European Union strongly rejects any accusations of political interference in internal processes or procedures in the Republic of Moldova. In our dialogue with the Moldovan authorities, we have always stressed that the justice reform, the fight against corruption and the depoliticization of state institutions are crucial to our ambitious Association Agreement, and therefore we are thoroughly monitoring the development of these key aspects,” the representatives of the EU Delegation to Moldova said. On Monday, the ousted head of the Prosecutor General's Office made a number of accusations against the current government, saying that he was the victim of a discrediting and denigration campaign. Stoianoglo also brought charges against representatives of the European Union. The Prosecutor General stated that the former EU ambassador to Chisinau, Peter Michalko, corresponded directly with Viorel Morari, who “provided” him with materials for internal use, procedural documents in his interests and against the Prosecutor General. According to Stoianoglo, the correspondence between the EU official and Morari began just in the course of the competition for the Prosecutor General position. Recall, Alexandr Stoianoglo was removed from the post of Prosecutor General, later his office and home were searched, and then he was detained for 72 hours. In his first comments, Stoianoglo stated that his detention was a reprisal by President Maia Sandu and that we are returning to the period of the captured state. Point
