Checkpoint Palanca was opened after the repair on December, 28. The ceremony was attended by Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, reports the government press service. Repair of the checkpoint cost € 6.18 million, of which € 4.5 million was provided by the European Union and € 1.68 million by the Moldovan government. The opening ceremony of the checkpoint Palanca was held on December, 28. Control at the checkpoint will be jointly conducted by the Moldovan and Ukrainian border guards. Also there is an area for pedestrians and cyclists at the checkpoint. Pavel Filip said that now border guards and customs officers would be able to pass cars in half the time. The Prime Minister stressed that the checkpoint Palanca is already the sixth point of joint control. In turn, Poroshenko noted that the new checkpoint will increase the level of security in the region. According to the Moldovan Customs Service, at first, cars lighter than 3.5 tons and may seat up no more than 22 passengers will pass through the checkpoint.  Source: NewsMaker
