The U.S. Department of Defense announced plans to provide $250 million to Ukraine as military assistance. Ukraine will get sniper rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, counter-artillery radars, electronic warfare detection and secure communication, the U.S. Department of Defense reports. The equipment will mainly be delivered to increase support for Ukraine’s Navy and Naval Infantry. The U.S. Department of Defense reports that military assistance is provided within the framework of cooperation between the United States and Ukraine in the field of security to support ongoing training programs and operational needs. The news release reads this security cooperation is made possible by Ukraine’s continued progress on the adoption of key defense institutional reforms to align Ukraine’s national security architecture with Euro-Atlantic principles. This reaffirms the long-standing defense relationship between the United States and Ukraine and will bring total U.S. security assistance to Ukraine to $1.5 billion since 2014. “(We) are grateful to our American partners for their continued strong support in the fight against Russian aggression,” commented the decision at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington.
