WHO is concerned about the increasing number of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries. Due to border restrictions, 21 countries lack vaccines against other diseases. The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic is far from over, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), said on Monday, April 27. He expressed deep concern about the consequences of disrupting normal health services, especially for children. “The pandemic is far from over,” the WHO head said. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus added that WHO is concerned about rising rates of infection in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries. “We have a long road ahead of us and a lot of work to do,” he warned. According to the WHO chief, border restrictions, as one of the efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, has resulted in the shortages of vaccines against other diseases in 21 countries. "The number of cases of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa can double. This should not happen, we are working with countries to support them," the WHO Director General pointed out.
