Biden is going to talk to the leaders of nine countries about the conversation with Putin, and later organize negotiations between NATO countries and Russia.
US President Joe Biden on Thursday, December 9, will discuss with the leaders of Eastern European countries his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Representatives of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia are expected to take part in the conference call with Biden. The US President is going to talk to them about the situation on the Ukrainian border and declare the importance of “transatlantic security” for the United States.
Biden and Putin’s videoconference
Biden and Putin held talks via video link on December 7 for about two hours. Politicians discussed the growth of the number of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine. Biden promised tough sanctions in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which would mean the country’s isolation from the global financial system. Putin opposed the expansion of NATO to the east.
Biden later said that he plans to hold talks between the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance and Russia and discuss both the expansion of the alliance to the east and ways to reduce tensions on the “eastern front”.
