The Government approved the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector for a period of 30 days, from October 22 to November 20. The Cabinet of Ministers, headed by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, is to go to parliament, where it will ask deputies to vote for the introduction of a state of emergency due to the crisis in the natural gas sector, reports unimedia.info During the state of emergency, the National Emergency Response Committee of the Republic of Moldova will issue regulations on the implementation of the following measures: 1) establishment of a special regime for the purchase of natural gas in an accelerated mode; 2) allocation of financial resources to ensure the purchase of the necessary volumes of natural gas; 3) making the necessary decisions to ensure operational actions to provide natural gas, including by derogating from regulatory provisions; 4) rationalization of consumption of natural gas and other energy resources, if necessary; 5) making decisions authorizing suppliers and distributors to act in order to purchase, transport and distribute natural gas throughout the country; 6) coordination of mass media activities on: a) informing the population about the causes and extent of the emergency situation, about the measures taken to prevent danger, eliminate the consequences of this situation and protect the population; b) familiarizing the population with the rules of conduct in an emergency situation; 7) creation of operational tools for collecting payments from consumers for used natural gas; 8) performing other necessary actions to prevent, reduce and eliminate the consequences of a shortage of natural gas that caused the introduction of a state of emergency.
