Ukrzaliznytsia asks the Moldovan counterpart, the state enterprise Moldovan Railways, to grant a discount for grain transit transportations on the section between the Sokyriany-Ocnita border crossing and the port of Reni. This issue was discussed during a meeting of Ukrainian railway workers with their Romanian and Moldovan colleagues. The deputy director of the Ukrzaliznytsya commercial work department, Valerii Tkachov, said that the company would send a letter to the Moldovan railways with a request to grant a discount for grain transport on the section between the Sokyriany- Ocnita border crossing and the port of Reni. In his turn, the Moldovan railways representative Vladimir Serbinov promised that the request would be promptly considered and predicted a positive result. In addition, Valerii Tkachov said that it would not be possible to get the discount on grain transit through the Serpneve-1-Basarabeasca crossing in July, as the declared volumes could not be transported. “I hope that in August we will increase cargo transportation through this junction and finally carry out the volumes that will allow us to get the transit tariffs discount,” he added. Earlier it was reported that the Moldovan Railways granted a 27 per cent discount for Ukrainian agricultural products transit transportations through Moldova in the direction of the ports of Reni, Giurgiulesti and Galati. According to the agreement, in 2023 the application of reduction coefficients to the base tariffs for transit traffic by the Moldovan Railways will be carried out on the condition that all freight forwarding organizations carry out the total traffic volume. To recalculate transport tax at reduced rates, at least one of two conditions is to be met: they should carry out the freight traffic fixed volume for the reporting month; or the average monthly volume of goods transported for the last three months, including the reporting month, should cumulatively exceed or equal the fixed monthly volume.
